SuRIA Home quota explained: RM150 million, first-come first-served

The SuRIA Home rebate is funded by a RM150 million national allocation, given on a first-come, first-served basis until 31 December 2026 or until that allocation is fully used up — whichever comes first. In practice, this means the rebate could close before the end-of-year deadline if demand is high, so timing is an important part of any household's solar plans.

The RM150 million figure was confirmed when PETRA launched the scheme, as reported by Bernama. It is a fixed pool that funds rebates of RM600 per kWac, capped at RM3,000 per eligible customer.

What "first-come, first-served" means

Unlike an open-ended grant, a first-come, first-served allocation is claimed in the order that eligible systems are commissioned and verified. Once the RM150 million is exhausted, no further rebates can be paid even if the 31 December 2026 date has not yet arrived. According to The Sun, implementation runs from 1 June 2026 with one claim allowed per eligible individual.

How many homes the quota covers

Coverage with a RM150 million pool depends on the average rebate size — homes claiming the full RM3,000 use more of the allocation than those claiming smaller amounts. The Edge Malaysia reported that the programme is expected to benefit tens of thousands of Malaysian homes. Because the exact number depends on uptake, the allocation should be treated as finite rather than guaranteed to last the full period.

Why early registration helps

For households considering rooftop solar, the practical takeaway is straightforward: starting the assessment and installation process early improves the chance of securing a rebate while funds remain. There is no penalty for planning ahead, and a properly sized Solar ATAP system continues to lower electricity bills regardless. You can verify current programme status on the official SEDA Malaysia and myTNB pages.

It is also worth remembering that the rebate is a one-time amount per eligible customer and is paid by TNB only after a system is commissioned and verified — it is not paid simply for registering interest. Treating the RM150 million as a limited pool rather than an open-ended fund, and confirming eligibility before committing, helps homeowners set realistic expectations. Because Government schemes can be revised, the figures and deadlines here should always be checked against the official SEDA and TNB sources before making a decision, and the rebate should never be assumed to be guaranteed.
